Compassionate one-on-one support
Avail offers confidential, free text and video support for women and men navigating an unexpected pregnancy or a past abortion experience, so you can connect in the way that feels most comfortable.
Support that meets you where you are
Avail has supported women and men through unexpected pregnancy and abortion experiences since 1996. That experience, along with years of research and conversations with the people we serve, shaped the creation of Better Clarity.
Whether you’re navigating an unexpected pregnancy, processing a past abortion experience, or supporting someone you care about, Avail offers a private place to talk through what’s on your mind. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Your Care Expert will meet you where you are with compassion, respect, and support shaped around what you need.
What can you expect?
Every conversation is different because every person is different. Whether you choose to connect by text or video, our goal is to create a space where you can feel heard, ask questions, and move forward at your own pace.
A conversation, not a checklist
There’s no script to follow and no “right” place to begin. You can share what’s on your mind, ask questions, or simply start wherever feels most comfortable.
A space without judgment
Our Care Experts are here to listen with compassion, not pressure. You can explore your thoughts openly, knowing you’ll be met with care and respect.
100% private and confidential
Your conversation is confidential, and you choose what you’d like to share. Our goal is to create a space where you can feel safe, heard, and supported.
Your pace, your choice
Whether one conversation feels helpful or you’d like continued support, you’re free to decide what feels right for you. You decide what feels right, every step of the way.
Which type of support feels right?

Text Conversations
If writing feels easier than talking, text support offers a comfortable way to ask questions, process what you’re experiencing, and connect with a Care Expert at your own pace.

Video Conversations
If you’d rather talk face-to-face, secure video appointments offer a private space to have a one-on-one conversation with a Care Expert from wherever you are.
Frequently asked questions
Who are Care Experts?
Care Experts are trained professionals with graduate-level education and/or certifications in counseling, mental health, or related fields. They provide a compassionate, confidential space to ask questions, process what you’re experiencing, and move forward at your own pace. While they do not provide licensed therapy or medical care through Avail, they are here to listen, offer support, and help you explore your next steps.
What happens during an appointment?
Every conversation is a little different because every person’s story is different. You can ask questions, talk through what’s on your mind, or simply take a little time to process what you’re experiencing. Your Care Expert will meet you where you are, help guide the conversation if you’d like, and create a compassionate, confidential space so you don’t have to carry things alone.
What if I don’t know what to say?
You don’t need to prepare anything beforehand. Whether you come with questions, something specific on your mind, or you just want to get some support, your Care Expert can help guide the conversation in whatever direction feels most helpful.
Do I have to be in crisis?
Care Experts are available for more than urgent situations. You might want another perspective, help thinking through a decision, or simply a conversation with someone outside the situation who will listen without judgment.
If you’re experiencing an emergency or need immediate crisis support, please contact your local emergency service or visit our Resources page for additional support options.
Is my conversation confidential?
Yes. Your conversation is confidential, and Avail is HIPAA compliant to help protect your privacy. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. Our goal is to create a space where you can ask honest questions, process what’s on your mind, and feel heard without judgment or pressure.
Is support free? Do I need insurance?
All support at Avail is 100% free. There is no charge for text conversations, video appointments, or continued support, and insurance is never required.
How long does an appointment last?
Text appointments are 30 minutes, and video appointments are 45 minutes. You don’t need to prepare anything or know exactly what you want to say. Your Care Expert can help get the conversation started, listen to whatever is on your mind, or talk through any questions you bring with you.
What do I need for a video appointment?
All you need is a device with internet access and a quiet, private place where you feel comfortable. We’ll send everything you need to join your appointment ahead of time, so getting connected is simple.
What do I need for a text appointment?
All you need is a phone or device with internet access and a private place where you feel comfortable responding. Your conversation will take place through a secure messaging platform, and we’ll send everything you need to get started before your appointment. You can take the conversation one message at a time.
Can I reschedule or cancel my appointment?
Yes. If your plans change, you can reschedule or cancel your appointment. We understand that life can be unpredictable, and there is no fee or penalty if you need to make a change. We simply ask that you let us know in advance so we can make that time available for someone else.
What happens after my appointment?
There’s no expectation to schedule another appointment. Some people find that one conversation is enough, while others appreciate continued support over time. If additional support would feel helpful, you’re always welcome to schedule another text conversation or video appointment.
Does Avail provide medical information or referrals?
Avail does not provide medical information or medical referrals. A Care Expert can still help you think through what kind of support you may be looking for and connect you with free or low-cost community resources when available.
There’s no pressure to decide today.
Support looks different for everyone. If you’re not ready to schedule an appointment, you’re welcome to keep exploring Better Clarity at your own pace. Read articles, work through self-guided activities, or simply take some time to reflect. We’ll be here whenever you’re ready.
